Theology for the People

In the Spring of 2026, the Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership at Mercer University is pleased to partner with Dr. Myles Werntz, Director of Baptist Studies at Abilene Christian University Graduate School of Theology, to create a new resource for churches. Theology for the People is the newest addition to the Baugh Center’s line-up courses. This offering invites lay leaders into deeper theological conversation while making note of the work they are already doing.

This resource is a 4-session recorded video series made available for churches to use in their context. The first three sessions are 20-25 minutes recorded presentation from Myles Werntz. The final session is a dialogue between Harrison Litzell and Myles Werntz to conclude the sessions. The Center has also created discussion guides for use by the leaders and participants within the church context. The church can then use the videos in their educational programming and have a facilitator lead the group in discussion after viewing the video.

The goal of this resource is to equip lay people in church contexts to consider the way they are thinking and talking theologically in and out of their church communities. The Baugh Center believes that lay leaders have the capacity for these conversations, and that resources which give language to this work can deepen this work and encourage leaders further.

This resource is available to churches for $175. This cost includes unlimited use of the videos and discussion guide in the congregation. The church will receive digital access to all materials (the videos are housed on Vimeo and the discussion guides will be available as a digital download) and can distribute them at their discretion within their congregation. There is no limit to the number of people or duration of time for the use of these materials.
