Do you have students in your church with a knack for leadership? We know you do and we are excited to announce a new opportunity from the Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership at Mercer University, and in partnership with CBF and CBF Georgia, for these developing leaders coming Summer 2024!
Recognizing that many students desire to be leaders in their churches and communities, but may not know where or how to begin, we are offering a weeklong experience for high-school juniors and seniors to engage in the topic of vocational leadership. Our goal is to encourage students to develop a personal leadership identity and to empower their giftedness to be used in their own communities.
During the week of July 22-26, 2024, a cohort of 12 students will convene at Mercer University’s Atlanta Campus to explore the topic of vocational leadership through engagements with Baptist leaders, state legislators, and other organizational leaders. With excursions to Atlanta attractions like the Georgia State Capitol, The Center for Civil and Human Rights, and more, students will explore their sense of call as Christ-empowered friends in the kingdom of God—
“I don’t call you servants any longer, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because everything I heard from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
If you know of a student who would benefit from this program, please encourage them to apply! Applications open December 8, 2023 and will close February 5 with final decisions made by March 15. Applications will require details from each student as well as a recommendation letter from a spiritual leader and one other leader in the student’s life. Students will also be asked to write short answer responses regarding their own experience and understanding of vocational leadership. Following the application, students will take part in a brief interview with a member of the advisory team.
The cost for this 4-day event is $395 per student and includes meals, accommodations, transportation in Atlanta, and access to all visited attractions. Students are responsible for arriving to the event at the start of the week and getting home at the conclusion.
The hosts for this event will be Rev. Harrison Litzell and Rev. Emily Harbin. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out at Litzell_ha@mercer.edu. You can also visit our website at baughcenter.mercer.edu.

Decisions will be announced by March 15, 2024
